William “Dean” Bowen, age 69, of Mechanicsville, passed away (unexpectedly) on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in Mechanicsville. He was born Friday, May 31, 1957, at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, Oceanside, California, a son of the late Lon “Bill” and Lois Bowen. Dean proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 22 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1996, continuing his telecommunications career and retiring from Capital One in 2013. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and great uncle, He enjoyed playing cards, camping, sitting around the campfire, and spending time with family & friends. His joy in life was being present for his family. He touched many lives with his wisdom, humor and an unwavering Christian faith. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Pamela Smith Bowen; two daughters, Michelle Christina Bowen of Varina, VA, and Melissa Lynne Bowen of The Villages, FL; a son, William “Will” Dean Bowen, Jr., of Hampton, SC; a sister, Lynda “Diane” Phelps (Bob), of St. Peters, MO; and a brother, Gordon “Gale” Bowen (Bev), of Virginia Beach, VA. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, 5351 Pole Green Road, Mechanicsville, VA, 23116. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for you to make donations in Dean's name to Semper Fi & America’s Fund which cares for our Nation’s critically wounded, ill and injured service members and families. 825 College Blvd #102, Oceanside, CA 92057.
