William Suttles Obituary

SUTTLES, William Clarence “Bill”, 82, of Mechanicsville, VA, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 04, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lorraine “Rainey” Boyd Suttles; his parents, John and Mary Suttles. Bill is survived by his wife of three years, Gloria Jean Suttles; his children, Carrie Suttles, Melanie Sears (Brian), Jonathan Suttles (Sarah); stepchildren William Higgins (Stacy), Michelle Higgins, and Michael Berlind (Rachel); six grandchildren, Jackson and Lilah Suttles, Sage and Micah Higgins, and Aubrey and Connor Berlind; his siblings, Gloria Scott, Mary Jo Acree, John “Tim” Suttles (Phyllis); and his brothers-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Wright (Judi), and Thomas “Tommy” Wright (Jennifer); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, on August 14, 1943, Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, mentor, and friend. Nothing made him happier than providing for his family, country, and community. His precious children were his greatest accomplishment and brought him immense pride and joy. Serving his country left him with wonderful memories of camaraderie with whom he served. During the Vietnam War era, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Co in Germany, accompanied by Lorraine, and later at Fort Carson, Colorado. He later served with the 986th Air Ambulance Medical Detachment of the Virginia Army National Guard until retirement in 1992. In his final years, Bill volunteered with the Virginia Defense Force. Bill worked full-time for A.H. Robins, later Wyeth Pharma, for 30 years and retired from purchase management in 2005. He also served as a board member of the ARC of Richmond, now SOAR365, supporting families and individuals with disabilities. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, listening to music, baking desserts, and visiting his beach house in Carova, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 1 to 2 pm at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with a memorial service to immediately follow at 2 pm.
