COX, Verlie Johnson, 77, of Mechanicsville, VA, went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2025. Verlie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret Johnson; and her brother, Ralph Johnson. She is survived by her husband, James Cox; her daughter, Vickie Cox; her son-in-law, Randy Litton; her brother, Wayne Johnson (Sandy); her sisters, Glenda Mooney (Eric), Gayle Womble, and Wanda Miller (Michael); her nephews, Lee Mooney, William Mooney, Travis Womble, Andrew Womble, Adam Womble, Ricky Watkins, Scott Johnson, and Barry Johnson; and many other great nieces, nephews, and one great-grandchild. Verlie was the wife of a volunteer firefighter for 40 years. She was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Black Creek Fire Department. The Lord was a pillar of Verlie’s life. She worked at the daycare for Staples Mill Road Baptist Church for over 30 years. She also was a Sunday School teacher, very active in the Woman’s Ministry, bible school and the youth group at the church. Verlie loved to spend her time coloring, sewing, and gardening. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Black Creek Baptist Church, 6289 McClellan Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Black Creek Baptist Church with a burial following the service in the church cemetery.
