Trevor Lee Dodson joined the Lord at the age of 54, on October 12, 2024, after a heart attack while hiking McAfee Knob. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter Lee & Pearl Ezell Dodson, and Glen & Marie Bolton Smith, and mother-in-law, JoAnn Sours McKay. He is survived by his parents, Ronald & Brenda Smith Dodson; his children, Libby (Devin), Nathan & Emma; their loving mother, Michelle McKay Dodson; his constant companion, Kona “The Doodle”; and his Tennessee family now spread far & wide. Trevor was born on December 31, 1969, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and spent his early years in Southeastern Tennessee. When he was 13, he moved to Richmond, VA where he would live the rest of his life. As a young man he attended Manchester High School where he wrestled and played football. Graduating in 1988, he initially attended college at Longwood University where he met his future wife, Michelle, before transferring and graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995 with a B.S. in Information Systems. He spent the next years of his life marrying Michelle in 1996, raising his family, and pursuing his career. He spent 12 years as a Technology Manager at the Virginia Retirement System, cherishing his time at Qimonda and the experiences in between.
Family and community mattered most to Trevor. He loved his family, and together with Michelle, raised them to be as compassionate as him. He will be remembered for his small group fellowship at Mechanicsville Christian Center, Living Nativity acting, teaching children’s Sunday School at Broadus, comradery with his “Poker Boys”, and brotherhood in the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity at VCU. Trevor mentored many people through work, Boy Scouts, and church but never failed to love his family the most.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm on Friday, October 18, 2024, to say their goodbyes at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA.
