CROWE, Thurman Douglas, 94, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, formerly of Richmond, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 12, 2021. Thurman was born to Willard A. and Josephine H. Crowe on May 21, 1927. He was preceded in death by his brothers, W. A. “Chuck” Crowe Jr. and Evan H. Crowe; his sisters, Clara C. Thompson, Elizabeth “Beckie” C. Kemp, and Ruby C. Blake. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy “Dot” J. Crowe; his sister Royce C. Beasley; his children Thurman Douglas (Doug) Crowe Jr. (Carol) and Mary Beth C. Streeter (Ray); his grandchildren Lori M. Sharp (Jeremy), Leslie M. Rafter (Patrick), Todd D. Crowe (Lauren),  Gregory S. Streeter (Michelle), Victoria S. Houston (Troy), and Nathaniel E. Streeter. In addition, he is survived by 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Thurman, also known to some as Square, graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond, Virginia in 1944. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and at a service station with his brother Chuck. He served honorably in World War II for the U.S. Navy until 1946. He retired from Armour Foods with 45 years of commitment. He also worked for a brief period of time with Stewart Sandwiches. He took a few years off after retirement and began working again in 1999 for the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office until the age of 90 (2018). Thurman had many hobbies such as landscaping his lawn, fishing, going to the beach, traveling with friends and relatives, woodworking (staining), spending time with family, and speaking of his beloved cities, Richmond, and Virginia Beach. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He was extremely proud of his family, faith, city, state, and country. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 6 to 8 PM at Monaghan Funeral Home at 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, Virginia 23111.
