Cahoon Sr, Thomas (Tom) Edward; 76 of New Kent VA, won his final battle, on Sunday, November 14, 2021, with his family by his side at McGuire Veterans Hospital, and is now in the arms of his Heavenly Father. Tom was born in New Bern, NC on March 15, 1945. After High School (Fike ‘63, Wilson NC), Tom proudly served our country in the US Navy aboard the USS Gunston Hall (LSD-5) through 1967 during Vietnam. In addition to sailor, he has served many roles in his 76 years; mentor, friend, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher... but his greatest roles were in service to his family as son, brother, husband, father, and grandaddy; he fulfilled those in a way that no other could. He loved so many and would give the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. At times he could seem intimidating, but as anyone who got to know him could tell you, he was just a big teddy bear welcoming any number of our friends into his home, for however long they wanted to stay. Saturday morning waffles or pancakes whether two friends or ten, he never said No. He was a true Patriarch and spiritual leader. His legacy here on Earth will live on and while we mourn our great loss, we rejoice and celebrate as he is welcomed to the place our Father in Heaven has prepared for him. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William Mac Duffy Cahoon and Cordelia Alexandra Pope Cahoon and his 1 st wife, Linda Faye Colwill Cahoon. He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Carole Mayton Cahoon; his devoted children, Shelly Cahoon Mann (Bobby); Thomas (Tommy) Edward Cahoon Jr. (Tara); Angela Yvonne Elmore (Brad); 12 grandchildren, Collin, Carter, Casey, Maggie, Jayden, Hayden, Carley, Tucker L., Maiya, Lexie, Annabelle, and Tucker E.; brother, William Carl Cahoon (Darlene); sister, Paula Cahoon Peele (Tim); sister in-law, Suzanne Walters; many cherished nieces, nephews, and close family friends. The family will receive friends at 1 pm, Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Hopewell Baptist Church 5061 Hopewell Rd., New Kent, VA, 23124 with a funeral service to follow at 2 pm. A reception will follow interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) at https://www.dav.org/, to the Building Fund at Hopewell Baptist Church at https://www.hbcnk.org/Give, or to your charity of choice.
