Obituary

Decker, Theresa “Terri” 64 of Mechanicsville, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, March 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Anne Loeffler. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 42 years, Jeff Decker; three loving children - Katie Tanis (Matt), Allison Combee (Matthew), and Jeffrey Decker; the lights of her life, her grandchildren - Emma, Brayden, Jules, and Calla; five siblings - Bill (Marcy, deceased), Bob (Jacquie), Jack (Jean), Jan (Richard, deceased), and Tom (Sharon); and many cherished nieces and nephews, including two special goddaughters. She also had a close relationship with her husband’s extended family.

Terri was Salutatorian of her 1976 graduating class at Bedford High School in Bedford, OH. She then graduated from Case Western Reserve University with her Bachelor's in Nursing. During her career as a Registered Nurse, she found her passion in wound care and completed training at the Cleveland Clinic to become a Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse. She later became an active member of the WOCN Central Virginia affiliate, where she served as a past President and gained many cherished friendships. Terri recently retired as the Director of Clinical Excellence for Home Care Delivered where she touched the lives of patients and coworkers. She spent 22 years as a devoted military spouse, traveling the country in support of her husband’s US Coast Guard career. Terri was an active member of the Catholic Church of the Redeemer, where she volunteered with multiple ministries. She cherished studying the Word with her “Teams of Our Lady” couples’ group, along with her personal accomplishment of reading the Bible in its entirety, which brought her tremendous joy.

Terri was a loving wife, mother, and “Grammie” and adored her time spent with her family, especially while boating and watching her “baby boy” play baseball. She loved making memories with her beloved grandchildren - playing with play-doh, baking cookies, and celebrating their accomplishments. Her kind heart and gentle spirit will be greatly missed, and her memory cherished by those who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 pm on Sunday, April 2, 2023, with a Prayer Service to follow at 4 pm, at the Catholic Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd. Mechanicsville, VA 23116, where a Funeral Mass will also be held at 11 am on Monday, April 3, 2023. A private graveside service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery the following day. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute or the Church of Redeemer Haiti Ministry.
