The Lord called Thelma Reavis Allen to come home on January 30, 2024. Thelma was born in Lawrenceville, Virginia on January 28, 1943. She was the second youngest of the children born to Hallie and Fannie Reavis. She graduated from James Solomon Russell High School before moving to Richmond and attending Smith Madden Business School. It was in Richmond, while staying at the YWCA and working at the Eggleston Hotel that she would meet the man who would become her husband of 60 years, James Allen. They would go on to have two children, Tammy, and Eric, who still reside in the Richmond area. Thelma had many loves in her life, she loved to knit, laugh, old movies, Neil Diamond music, attending church, whether it be her home church, Popular Mount Baptist Church, or St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Richmond, for quiet spiritual reflection. She loved helping people, which was evident in her twenty years of customer service at Hecht’s. Most importantly she loved her family, especially her two “Sugar Pie Honey Bunches”, her grandson, Grayson, and her granddaughter, Logan. Thelma has joined her father and mother, Hallie and Fannie Reavis; her sisters, Hallie, Queen, Fannie, Rachel, Deborah, and Juma; her brothers, Hilliard, Norfleet, Elmo, George, Carrell, Ralph and infant brothers, Gilbert and George. Her memory will continue through her husband, James Allen; her son, Eric Allen; her daughter, Tammy Babbs (Preston); her grandchildren, Logan and Grayson Babbs; her sisters, Jerry Duplechein, and Mary Alice Yelverton and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends for a celebration of life gathering on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 5pm-7pm at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
