Stephen D Vass

VASS, Stephen Douglas “Steve”- 76, of Sandston, VA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2025, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Ray Vass; his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Ellen Hazelgrove; and his brother-in-law, David Hazelgrove. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carolyn Vass; four children, Eric Vass (Georgina), Laura Hoyt, Christal Vass (Allen), and Christina Vass; seven grandchildren, Gavin, Morgan, Maddox, Levi, Logan, Landon, and Waylon; and many other relatives and friends. Steve proudly served his country in the US Air Force for over 25 years, as a weapons specialist, including a year in Vietnam. He retired from the Henrico County Police Dept. after 30+ years of service as a homicide detective. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and “Papa”. His bright smile, quick wit, kindness, big hugs, and unconditional love will be greatly missed. Steve loved big and gave all he had to his family. All services will be private.
