Clarke, Shirley “Nannie” Goodman, 92, departed this life on December 3rd, 2024, leaving life as she lived it: at her own pace, and on her own terms. Born in Richmond on July 15th, 1932, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bobby) L. Clarke in 1950. They spent 60 years happily married, while raising two children, and doting on their six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Shirley began her work career at the Virginia Department of Health, after which she developed an expert eye for dirty silverware. She spent most of her career running the Sandston office of the Virginia Department of Forestry. No one is confident of her title, but, like every other part of her life, she was in charge. After retiring, she took a job at Naumann’s Florist, where she handled the storefront as if it were her own. Nannie was a lifelong member of the PTA, and served roles in Henrico, Hanover, and at the state level. She loved making Christmas special for her family, shopping, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play soccer. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Berry P. Goodman; husband, Bobby Clarke; grandson, Andrew Clarke; and son-in-law, Steve D’Adamo. She is survived by her children, Virginia D’Adamo and Bobby (Von) Clarke, Jr.; grandchildren, Nikki (Phil) D’Adamo-Damery, Stephen D’Adamo, Jr., Jessica (Jess Moore) D’Adamo, Eric (Katy) Clarke, and Lauren Clarke; and great-grandchildren, Iris, Anaïs, and Juno D’Adamo-Damery, Christopher and Carson D’Adamo, Mason, Cameron, and Norah Clarke. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 pm on Monday, December 9th at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville VA. 23111, where a funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, December 10th. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
