Sherry (McKinney) Smith

SMITH, Sherry McKinney, 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 20, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her daddy, James Arthur McKinney, Jr.  Sherry is survived by her beloved son, Brandon Wendel Smith (Stacy); adored grandchildren, Bentley Wayne Smith, and Jensen Wendel Smith; mother, Barbara Carneal McKinney; sister, Angie McKinney Rice (Marvin); and nephews, Trent McKinney Rice, and Chase Winston Rice; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  Sherry was raised in Hanover County where she lived most of her life. She was a 1982 graduate of Lee Davis High School and attended Braxton School of Business. Anyone who knew and loved Sherry knew she loved her family, the Confederate flag, Kid Rock, and Lynard Skynyrd, whom she saw in concert many times. Sherry was so strong throughout her cancer journey and was a fighter to the very end as anyone who knew her would expect. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Trinity Hospice, Bon Secours Community Hospice House, and the nurses who helped care for Sherry. The family will receive friends from 3 – 6 pm, Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with a memorial service immediately following. A reception will be held following the services at her son Brandon’s home, 7095 Old Lantern Trail, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
