Ruby Bernice (Pitts) Burks

BURKS, Ruby Bernice; 82, peacefully departed this earth to be with her heavenly Father, August 23, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family as she had been her entire life. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Miles Pitts; her husband, Ernest Burks; a granddaughter, Amy Stevens; and 3 sisters, Eva Geier, Patricia Larson, and Laura Matschke. Ruby is survived by her beloved daughters, Cindy Burks and Robin Wilson (Bobby); 7 grandchildren, Shawn Otey (Ellen), Michael Stevens (Leigh Ann), Heather Cosby (Corey), Christopher Otey (Liz), Matthew Stevens (Alayna), Brandon Stevens (Brittany) and Austin Wilson; 11 great-grandchildren, CJ Cosby, Lexi Otey, Alyssa Otey, Bryleigh Stevens, Brett Otey, Wyatt Stevens, Jordan Cosby, Trey Cosby, Jaylen Cosby, Jessica Dicken, and Messiah Stevens; 2 brothers, Miles Pitts Jr. (Jackie) and Jack Pitts (Janet); a sister, Harriet Gritzmaker (Art); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ruby, lovingly referred to as “Granny Goose”, was dearly loved by everyone who had the pleasure to meet her. She was an angel on earth that cherished her family more than life itself. She was loving, nurturing and completely selfless. She had a beautiful passion for life and enjoyed her country music, dancing, laughing, and sharing good food with family and friends. She will be best remembered for her macaroni and cheese, pound cake, room brightening smile, and her open and loving heart. The family will receive friends, from 6 – 8 pm, Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, VA 23111, where a funeral service will be held, Thursday, August 27, 2020 at noon, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
