Roy Michael Sheets

SHEETS, Roy Michael – 66 of Richmond, VA, departed this life on Friday, September 8, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Alfred Sheets, Jr., and Jacqueline Otey Sheets. Mike is survived by his brother, Tom Sheets (Jean), and sister, Leslie Davis (Scot). He enjoyed special relationships with his niece, Erin Elder (Brett), and nephews Drew Davis (Caroline) and Dylan Sheets (Charlotte).  Mike was looking forward to developing a similar relationship with his great nephew and nieces (June, Lilianne, and Henry). In 1968 the Sheets family moved to Glen Allen.  In this neighborhood, they made friendships that would span more than 50 years. At the center of these friendships was the Styer family, most notably Bruce. Shared vacations with the Styers, summer days at Lake Caroline, riding ponies, and exploring on motorcycles made for a wonderful, fun-filled youth. Mike graduated from Henrico High School in 1975. The day after graduation he and three friends began a three-month cross-country trip. They had adventures and made lasting memories during this trip. Mike recently retired from Henrico County where he worked for over forty years in the Traffic Engineering Division. He made many long-time friendships during this time that provided comfort and support during Mike’s recent health issues. Friendships continued to be a central theme of Mike’s life. He helped neighbors out by shoveling snow, carrying groceries, and doing other odds and ends. They recognized his kind ways with a shirt designating him as the “Gildenfield Guy”. Mike enjoyed watching and playing sports and was a lifelong fan of the University of Virginia and the Dallas Cowboys. Although he never married, Mike was a family man. He loved spending time with his family, particularly if his niece and nephews were going to be present. One of his last adventures was a trip to Yellowstone with Erin, Dylan, and their spouses. He also enjoyed family dinners and sunny days by the pool. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Monaghan Funeral Home; 7300 Creighton Parkway; Mechanicsville. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Monaghan Funeral Home.
