Rose Wheat Obituary

WHEAT, Rose Marie Duke; 80, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Wheat, her mother, Dora Smith, her father, Julius Duke, her stepfather, Otho Smith, her brother, James Smith, and many pets including Lucy Mae, and her longtime shadow, Luc. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Duke, her son, Scott Wheat, her grandchildren, Sarah and Zach Herndon, her sisters, Faye Ward and Laura Hott, and her pride and joy fur babies, Cali and Charlie, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Rose was the Greatest MOMMA, sister, and friend anyone could ever ask for. She became a hairdresser right out of high school and continued with that career until she retired around age 62. She even went to some people’s homes to fix their hair and was the hairdresser for many family and friends. Rose’s favorite thing was spending time with family, especially at the beach. The sun was life to her. She loved sitting on the deck all day and well into the evening, just talking and laughing. She had a huge warm caring heart, and an ability to keep Dad from finding out the bad stuff you had done. She was an AMAZING cook. Momma’s beautiful smile and laugh were so infectious and contagious, it filled the room. More than anything, she was a great human being. She treated everyone with love and respect like she had known them forever. She will be greatly missed by all and leaves behind a legacy of Love and Compassion, as well as a standard for Mommas that will never be matched. She was so much more than just MOMMA. The family will receive friends and family from 11 am to 12 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Shalom Baptist Church, 8116 Walnut Grove Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12 pm.
