Robert "Sammy" Sanford Durrette III

DURRETTE, III, Robert Sanford “Sammy” – of Varina, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family, Saturday, April 29, 2023. He had just celebrated his 61st birthday on April 17. Sammy had a deep and lifelong love of music, hunting, and fishing. He was an excellent storyteller (repeating the same stories over and over, but never differently) and an even better prankster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sanford Durrette, Jr. and Lois Ann McGuire Durrette, as well as his grandparents. He is survived by two children, Stanford Scott Durrette (Madalyn) of Mechanicsville, and Gillian Elizabeth Durrette of Midlothian; his sister and caregiver, Jane M. Durrette of Varina; niece, Elizabeth Greve (Dustin); nephew, George Clarke; great-niece, Joslyn; and several aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins (including Arnie and Frankie Eberly, with whom he was especially close); and a special life-long friend and caregiver, Cheryl Powell; along with many other friends and associates. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, VA 23111 with a Celebration of Life reception to follow in the funeral home lounge.
