Johnson, Rita, C; 81, of Sandston, rejoined her loved ones in heaven, Sunday, April 12, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles Lester (C.L.); her son, Wayne; 5 grandsons; and her sister, Helen Howard. Rita is survived by her son, Steve "Slick" (Julie); daughter, Tina Doub (Warren); and son, Michael (Dana); 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Patrick Hoynacki. First and foremost, Rita was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Once her children reached school age, she became a Henrico County school bus driver and drove for 19 years. She always remained a faithful servant to God and was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church in Sandston, where she was active on the kitchen committee, in her Sunday school class, and in the Woman's Missionary Union. Rita was a loyal and devoted friend; always willing to help anyone in need. She was admired for her strength and perseverance by everyone that knew her. She loved bowling and was a league member at Bowl America Eastern for over 25 years. She also loved reading, puzzles, game shows, Virginia Tech football, the Little League World Series and fulfilled a dream by making the trip to Williamsport. Due to the current government order, there will not be a public visitation or a chapel service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time and will be updated on this website once arrangements are complete. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice in her memory.
