Shortt, Rick Alan; died July 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Crew Shortt, and his nephew, Aaron Wesley Shortt. Rick is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kimberlee DeShazo Shortt, and his two children, Lindsey Zoeola Shortt and Emmett Wayne Shortt, his brother Gary Wayne Shortt (Debbie) and father, Wayne “Butch” Emmett Shortt. Rick was born July 5, 1967, and was raised in King William, VA where he graduated from King William High School in 1985. He later made his home in King William after marrying Kimberlee and raising his two amazing children. He worked at Power Distribution INC. for 15 years and Slurry Pavers for several years as their parts manager. The loves of Rick’s life were his family, friends, and his pets. As a child, he loved to hunt with his dad, brother, and friends. After a long cold day of hunting, he would come home where his mother, Carolyn, would have a hot dinner ready for them to enjoy. As a young man, he loved snow and water skiing, motorcross racing, weightlifting, and driving his hot rods and speed boat. He also loved to watch NASCAR at his Granny’s house while rooting on Earnhardt in his black number 3 car. After returning to King William, he enjoyed hanging out with his friends and family in both Woodruff Subdivision and his river home at South Hill Banks and watching his children grow into beautiful young adults. He would go to as many sporting events as possible to watch them play. He was so very proud of watching Lindsey graduate from college and Emmett decide to become an electrician and follow in his footsteps. Lindsey, Emmett, and our “other son” Tyler, and their friends, were his greatest joy in life. The laughter they all shared together was priceless. Rick was the kindest, sweetest man one could know, and he never met a stranger. He loved to tell stories, some more than once. He also had the ability to fix almost anything electronically and mechanically. He missed his calling as a Jeopardy contestant, but his friends and family always enjoyed listening to him share his wealth of “useless” knowledge. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway Mechanicsville, VA 23111, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 2:30 pm, with a celebration of life at 4 pm, with refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
