Richard Lee Elrod passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at his home in Mechanicsville, VA. Born September 21, 1954, in Richmond, VA, he was just days past his 71st birthday. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Major of Richmond, VA, and his brother, Bill Elrod (Bonnie). He is survived by his three daughters, Tina Winston, Angie Moore (son-in-law Terry Moore), and Jenny Elrod; his two brothers, Joe Elrod (Sissie) and Bob Elrod (Carol); six grandchildren, Halee, Hunter, Autumn, Cody, Josey, and Owen; and ten great-grandchildren, Ava, Kira, Houston, Henley, Kaleb, Jordyn, Beckett, Brooks, Miley, and Lyla.
He loved watching NASCAR (when it was real racing), playing cards with his buddies, and fishing the lake at Woodhaven, where his longtime home was for many years. His latest pastime was watching and feeding his grand dogs Winnie and Lily, and Thomas the Turtle. He was always quick to volunteer his doggie sitting duties to care for the dogs. He enjoyed piddling in the yard, especially in the fall when he could be seen on his roof blowing leaves. He loved his chocolate ice cream. His favorite catch phrase in life was telling his daughters, “You just don’t know!” He will be missed by all who knew him. Arrangements are pending for the memorial event to celebrate his life that was cut short way too soon.
