Ret. CW4 James “Jay” Aldredge, III Obituary

Ret. CW4 James “Jay” Buren Aldredge, III departed this life on December 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Jay was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, in 1962, and his family relocated to Richmond, Virginia, when he was a child. He was preceded in death by his parents: James Buren Aldredge, Jr,. and Carolyn Wood Aldredge.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia R. Aldredge (Patti); two sons, James Alexander “Alex ”Aldredge (Kristin) and Robert Andrew “Drew” Aldredge (Ashley); siblings: Lynn Aldredge Lee (John), Daniel Wood Aldredge (Jackie), Sallie Aldredge Cooke (Todd), and many other family and friends.

Ret. CW4 Aldredge was a decorated US Army veteran who served his country for 28 years as an Aviator.  He joined the US Army in 1988 after graduating from Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. He began his career piloting the Cobra Helicopter.  After serving in Desert Storm, he transitioned to the CH-47 Chinook Helicopter and became a Standardization Instructor Pilot and an Instrument Flight Examiner. He retired in 2016 and has enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his beloved English Mastiffs.

The family would like to thank the Providers and staff at the Richmond Veterans Medical Center, Spring Arbor Cottage at Salisbury in Midlothian, VA, and Suncrest Hospice for their exceptional care.

The family will hold a private celebration of life prior to his burial at Arlington National Cemetery. In remembrance of Jay,  a donation may be made to one of the following organizations: The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at theaftd.org; Wounded Warrior Project; Lucie’s Mastiff Mission, or an animal rescue of your choice.
