DAVIS, Phoebe Anne, 69, became non-corporeal, Aug 25, 2024. She was preceded in the afterlife by her parents, Edwin and Willoughby Davis, and her brother, Griff. She is survived by her brother, Todd, her nephew Allan, and a collection of devoted friends, who all thought the world of her.
In her own words:
“I grew up a long time ago in Arlington, Virginia. I could walk to the Pentagon from our house, and bowled with my Dad at the Pentagon lanes when he worked there. We watched planes coming and going from National Airport. I've lived in Richmond, VA pretty much straight through since graduating college, with one notable two year Hunter Thompson-esque stint in Beckley, West 'By God' Virginia. Think of the Waltons and Deliverance at the same time. I managed a chain bookstore for 8 years before I owned my own shiny SF and Mystery bookstore in Richmond. My business partner and I slugged it out, but the superstores slugged harder, and we mournfully closed our store in '94. If you are lucky enough to have an independent bookstore in your town, go buy a book from them immediately”
The words from one of her dearest friends Suzanne Karzoun, captures all our love for Phoebe:
“My heart is full of sorrow over the loss of one of my greatest friends, Phoebe A Davis. I loved her. Our mutual friends loved her. My family loved her.
As soon as you met her, you’d know that Phoebe loved animals so much. Her cats were her babies. She was an avid equestrian, as well as a boisterous storyteller. Her favorite movie was Star Wars. She’d tell me the story of her friend sneaking her into the theater for the millionth time. She loved the tv show, Supernatural and Sci-Fi movies, and bookstores, among others. She lived her dream of owning a
Science Fiction/Fantasy bookstore with her friends, which was inspiring and made me look up to her. She’s been there throughout it all with me (grown up with me) … always the kindhearted, intelligent person who lived passionately. I’m going to miss her so much, and I am so very glad that I found that kindred soul.”
Phoebe will be deeply missed. Our hearts are a little bit emptier without her.
