Nita (Owens) Wilson

Wilson, Nita Owens, 77, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Lloyd "Tim" Wilson Sr., and by her brother, Sam Owens. She is survived by her son, Lloyd "Tim" Wilson Jr. (Amee); her grandchildren, Lloyd "Tim" Wilson III (Morgan), Westin Wilson (fiancée Lottie), Lexi Gipson, Kallie Gipson, and Crew Gipson, all of whom she was immensely proud. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ronald Wilson (Celeste); her sister-in-law, Nancy Owens; her niece, Loujean Owens James (Steven); her niece, Heather Carder (John); and her cherished friend, Rosemary Jackson. Nita was born on April 12, 1949, at Grace Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She grew up on Roosevelt Avenue in Mechanicsville and graduated from Lee-Davis High School in 1967. Her brother, Sam, introduced her to his friend Tim, who would become the love of her life. They were married on November 8, 1969. As newlyweds, they lived in a small second-floor apartment in a house on Atlee Road. Nita often said it was hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and tiny—but it was theirs. During those years, she worked for Strange's Florists. After saving for several years, they built their forever home in Cold Harbor, where they spent the rest of their lives together. Nita later attended night school and earned an associate degree in accounting. In 1979, she began her career with Lawyers Title (Land America), where she worked until retiring as a Senior Account Clerk in 2008. Nita and Tim built a wonderful life together. They were true homebodies who simply enjoyed being with one another. Their greatest joy was spending time with their grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Ma" and him "Gaga." In 2004, Tim was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, and Nita became his devoted primary caregiver until his passing in 2015. She cared for him with extraordinary love, strength, and patience, even during the most difficult times. In recent years, Nita faced mobility challenges that made it difficult for her to leave the house. Even so, she treasured every moment spent with her grandsons, watching Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune, and continuing a beloved tradition of Papa John's pizza nights that had begun when they were young boys. She also looked forward to her weekly Wednesday visits with her best friend, Rosemary. They often laughed about how unlikely their friendship was—Rosemary being from "up north" and Nita, a proud Southerner, two complete opposites who became the closest of friends. Every Wednesday, Rosemary would visit and bring homemade baked treats, while Nita would have a bag of candy waiting for her. They would spend hours talking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company. Nita loved reading, investing, her family, her country, and President Trump. She faithfully supported the Wounded Warrior Project, the Parkinson's Foundation, Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Boys Town. She especially enjoyed receiving the complimentary gifts they sent, particularly Christmas and birthday cards, which she loved giving to family and friends. With a smile, she would often announce, "Your free card just came in!" Nita was a strong woman with a quick wit and a caring heart. She loved fiercely, stood by those she cared about, and never lost her sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Donna Lambert of Donna & Company for being such a wonderful friend to Nita and for taking such great care of her hair for so many years. She truly looked forward to her salon appointments. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Parkinson's Foundation, Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Boys Town, or your local church in Nita's memory. A celebration of life will be held for both Nita & Tim at a later date.
