Myrtle Moore Obituary

Moore, Myrtle D., known to most as “Sissie” 79, of New Kent, VA. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 4, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Cassie Adams; her beloved husband, W. Stanley Moore; her twin brother, Billy Douglas; her sisters, Catherine McMillian, Dorothy Moore, and Janice Gammon; and her daughter-in-law, Theresa Moore. Sissie is survived by her son, JW Moore, his wife, Jamie, and their three sons, Jimmy, Joseph, and Jonathan; three stepsons, Stanley Jr. (Stephanie), Tony (Theresa), and Timmy Moore; six grandchildren, Kyle (Megan), Kaleb (Rebeca), Peyton, Jimmy, Joseph, and Jonathan; and two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Waylan; a sister, Gloria “Monk” Gibbs (Bo); brother, James W. “Bubba” Adams, Jr. (Debbie); sister-in-law, Billie-Gail Douglas; and a brother-in-law, Bobby McMillian. She had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she also loved deeply. Sissie lived her entire life in New Kent, VA., where she worked at JW Adams Lumber & Logging Co. and Waterloo Farm. Sissie and Stanley always welcomed friends and family to their house and pool.  “Aunt Sissie’s Pool” continues to be a fond memory for many. She had many dogs throughout her life and loved animals, especially her two chocolate labs, Nellie and Bella. Perhaps the most memorable thing about Sissie was her big personality. She was the definition of a country girl. She was loud, kind, tough, and loving. Her laugh filled the room and was always recognizable. You always knew where you stood with her and when she loved you, it was genuine. She would help anyone who needed it and was always willing to share her garden vegetables, jellies, and pickles. To say that she will be missed is an understatement. They don’t make them like her anymore. She was simply one of a kind. To know her was to love her. Sissie was loved by many and will be deeply missed. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 10 – 12 PM, at Hopewell Baptist Church, 5061 Hopewell Rd., New Kent, VA. where a Memorial Service will immediately follow at noon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hopewell Baptist Church.
