THOMAS, Michael David- 78 years old, went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2024, at his home, with his family in Mechanicsville, VA. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Ann Thomas; his 4 children, Christina Wingard and her husband, Andrew, Teresa Acosta and her husband, Miguel, Bryan Thomas and his wife, Corrie, and Whitney Scarborough and her husband, Johnathan; 16 grandchildren, Rebecca Taylor, Harrison Andrews, Andrew Acosta, David Acosta, Michael Acosta, Lauren Acosta, Leigha Acosta, Taylor Deanda, Kirsten Thomas, Hayden Thomas, Cortney Thomas, Preslea Thomas, Ashtyn Thomas, Bryce Thomas, Rylee Thomas, and Dean Scarborough; his great-grandchild, Hunter Acosta; and his brother, Denny Thomas. Michael worked in security for General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan for more than 20 years. During his time at General Motors, he was drafted to the United States Army in May of 1966 and served as a military policeman (MP) for 2 years. After his time at GM, he worked as a Campus Police Officer for Wallace College in Dothan, Alabama for 21 years. He graduated from the Police Academy in Dothan, Alabama during his service at Wallace College. He loved to spend time with family, go camping, and go to car shows. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend to those who had the privilege to know him. He will be truly missed. He was a faithful member of Ewell Bible Baptist Church in Ozark, Alabama from 1988 – 2021, where he was active in its ministries such as Awana Clubs, and working in the sound booth. Due to declining health, he and his wife moved in with their daughter, Teresa Acosta, and her family in Mechanicsville, VA in 2021, and attended Victory Baptist Church until December 2024. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Victory Baptist Church, 6313 Clover Lane, Henrico, VA 23228. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Miguel Acosta. Interment will follow at Amelia Veteran’s Cemetery at 2 pm.
