NIXON, Mary Lynn, 76, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Mary was born January 9, 1950, and spent her childhood in Robley, VA.
Mary is survived and continues to be loved by her husband of 43 years, Ricky Nixon; her children, Lewis Childress (wife Katrina), Benjaman Nixon (wife Melanie), Shannon Nixon (wife Shannon); her sisters, Catherine Ann, Lucy, Hellen, Barbara; her brother, Herbert; her seven grandchildren, Ben, Destiny, Bailey, Angel, Daymen, Evan, and Tristin; and four great grandchildren, Madeleine, Blakely, Marley, and Parker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Rosie Schools of Tidewater, VA.
Mary LOVED to dance, hang out with her friends, spend time at the Moose, and was known to all as a devoted friend, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She was always up to do anything outdoors including riding 4 wheelers, hunting, and fishing. She had a special place in her heart for her Poodle, “Candy”. She loved hummingbirds and gardening which allowed her to create a space that would encourage their visits. Mary was always up to spend time near or on the water including taking cruises, hang out at the “river,” or just sit on the beach. After a 30-year career with Phillip Morris, she retired in 2008. The family would like to acknowledge the love and care provided by Heritage Green of Mechanicsville, and also the friendship that developed between Mary and her roommate, Kim Wickens.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00 PM. Her interment will be later that afternoon at 2:00 PM at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd, Hanover, VA 23069.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Richmond East Moose Lodge 1947 in Mary’s name.
