Marjorie Melchor Obituary

Melchor, Marjorie Pool, 82, of Mechanicsville VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 18, 2025.  Born on March 10, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. Pool, Sr., and Mattie G. Pool.  Margie grew up in Portsmouth, VA, and later moved to Chesapeake, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joan P. Joyner; brother-in-law, Powell Joyner; son-in-law, Chris Bundy; and her companion of 25 years, Lt. Col. Billy Redmon.

Margie was a graduate of Cradock High School and Portsmouth General Hospital School of Nursing, both in Portsmouth, VA.  She began her nursing career at Portsmouth General Hospital in the PACU and medical/surgical floors.  When her children were young, Margie took a break from nursing for a brief time and obtained her Real Estate License and later a Broker’s License, working for Kline Realty in Portsmouth.  As her children became older, she returned to nursing, working again at Portsmouth General Hospital until its closure and then at Maryview Hospital, mostly as charge nurse on medical/surgical floors.  Late in her nursing career, Margie took classes to become a certified oncology nurse and ended her career as head nurse for Dr. James J. Stark’s private Hematology and Medical Oncology practice.  Margie was a dedicated and compassionate nurse and made an impact on many patients and families throughout her career.

Margie is survived by a son, Rick Melchor, and his wife Courtney of Mechanicsville; a daughter, Amy Melchor Bundy of Chesapeake; four granddaughters, Claire Bundy, Morgan Melchor, Maren Melchor, and Natalie Bundy; a brother, Edward (Terry) F. Pool, Jr., his wife Jean and their family of McLean; her sister’s family; childhood friend, Nyoka White, and her beloved miniature poodle, Sammy.

Margie, or Mimi, as her granddaughters affectionately named her, and what she preferred to be called over the last few years, was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and nurse.  She instilled a strong sense of values in her children and grandchildren and taught them that you do not quit in times of adversity; you just keep moving.  She was generous with her time, money and heart, and she expected the same in return.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of The Harmony Collection at Hanover, A Touch of Grace Hospice, and Geraldine Glivens for all of their kindness, compassion and support in caring for Mimi.
