Margaret Ann Owens R.N. (August 16th, 1931-March 8th, 2025)
Margaret passed into the loving hands of her Lord peacefully in the company of her children March 8, 2025 at the age of 93, As a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Loved by all who knew her, she was noted for her quick wit, incredible memory and most of all, her ever caring hands and heart that touched so many. Born and growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, she knew from a young age that nursing was to be her life’s calling. As a graduate of the University of Louisville Nursing School, her career spanned many years. After moving to the Richmond area in the 1950s, she raised her children in a loving family setting, a devoted mother, always a fierce protector and guide to them. She began nursing work at Retreat Hospital and later continued as Head Nurse under the Director of Nursing, June Turnage. For a time, as a single mom, she supported her own mother as well as her children as they transitioned to adulthood. Later in life, she again embraced her new family and as before guided and helped launch her loving daughters into their successful careers and carried her family through trying times. Her talents as a pianist were shared on many happy occasions. Her love of life and music carry on in the hearts of her loved ones. She prepared meals that were creative and legendary, passing on her culinary art to many. A woman of faith, she felt and shared kindness, forgiveness and her Christian values. Her concern for others was natural, as she would always make sure that her loved ones remained safe throughout their travels and livelihoods. She was a traveler, often visiting her relations in faraway places. Not the biggest fan of flying, she nevertheless adventured to California, Alaska and Kentucky among the other states as she toured with her families. Her tenacity was amazing. Margaret is preceded in death by her wonderful caring parents, Omar and Lydia Kretschmer; her spouse, Julian (Joe) Owens; and her grandson, David Gray. She leaves behind her children, David Eby, Donna Gray, Debra Owens Ziegengeist and Julie Owens; her grandchildren, Daniel, Adrienne, Allison, Joseph, Julia, Carrie, Hunter, Emily, and Katelyn; and her great-grandchildren, Nyia, Easton, Clark, Isaiah, Noah, Everleigh, Marion, Cole, and Joan. She will be missed by her circle of friends and extended family. Many thanks to the kind and wonderful staff at Legacy Hospice, who’s care and support meant so much to the family. Funeral services are being arranged by Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA. 23111. All services will be private.
