THORNTON, Lurelia - 65 of Aylett, VA went home to the Lord surrounded by her loved ones on December 10, 2024. She was born December 18, 1958, in King William County, the daughter of the late William and Frances Mitchell. Lurelia was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Thornton; and her grandmothers, Belva Lawson and Rea Mitchell. Lurelia is survived by her daughters, Frances Creasey (Adam), and Rhonda Acosta (Angelo); her sisters, Cynthia Mitchell and Deannea Hughes (Rob); her grandchildren, Taylor Gershowitz, Kyle Lynch, Zane Acosta, Logan Acosta, and Mollie Wray; great-grandson, Keanu Mica; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. Lurelia was a retired machine operator for Philip Morris. After retirement, she found a calling in caregiving. She took amazing care of many family members in King William County. She left a huge impact on many folks with her giving heart. She took pride in caring for others. It’s a legacy her daughters proudly shared with her. Lurelia loved it when she gathered with family and friends at her cousin Sharon’s river home. She found so much peace from sitting on the swing looking at the water, but nothing in this world brought her more joy than her two cats, Miss Kitty and Pin Pin. They were the love of her life. Our family would like to give the biggest thanks to Mom’s neighbor, who loved her so much. She loved all of them dearly and it brought us so much comfort to know she was looked after. The family will be hosting a celebration of life, at 1 pm on January 12, 2025, at the Ruritan Club in King William County, 156 Ruritan Ln., King William, VA 23086. Please join us to celebrate her life.
