Linda L. Canyock

Linda L. Canyock died on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at her home in Mechanicsville, Virginia.  Cherished in the lives of those who knew her, Linda was a longtime volunteer at Covenant Woods in Mechanicsville and was very proud of being the recipient of the Eileen Mabe  Guild Volunteer of the Year award in 2023.  She was the heart and soul of the Ruth Shoppe at Covenant Woods for many years.  Linda loved dogs and cats and over the years was a proud “dog mom” to Dolly Lucy, Mitzi Heidi, and Lady Marie.  She will be missed terribly by her current dog Jenny, who has found a safe and loving home with her recent caregiver and cousin Mary Beth and her husband Lawson, who will care for her always, as promised.

Linda was predeceased by her parents, Viola and Harold Canyock.  She was a longtime employee of Virginia Department of Veterans Services and after retirement, became a faithful and diligent volunteer at Covenant Woods.  She was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church.  Linda is survived by her lifelong friend Charlotte Pritchett; cousins Nancy Burford (Doug), Morris Pitts (Winnie), Mary Beth Heggie (Lawson), Douglas Pitts,  Scott Pitts (Laurie), and host of second and third cousins who always reveled in her baked treats at family Christmases.  A special thanks to James River Hospice and their team of devoted nurses.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 pm on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Monaghan Funeral Home; 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, Virginia 23111.  A private burial will be held at Signal Hill Memorial Park on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda’s name can be made to the Richmond SPCA, 2919 Hermitage Road, Richmond, VA 23220.
