Lawrence E. Killmeier departed this life to join the Lord and his beloved dog “Buddy” in Heaven on Monday morning, February 23rd, 2026. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was a loving husband, devoted father, and beloved Poppy to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He retired from Pitney Bowes in 1993, concluding a 28-year career as Salesman, Sales Manager, District and Regional Manager. He enjoyed a second career as a Bridge Tender on the Gwynn’s Island Bridge in Mathews County until his full retirement at age 74. He was an active member of the Bethel Methodist Church in Mathews and later the Epworth Methodist Church in Aylett. Larry was also a 30-year member of the Mathews and Mechanicsville Lions Clubs.
Born August 7th, 1944, in Washington, DC, to Lila M and Richard Killmeier; he is preceded in death by his younger brother, Riley A Killmeier. He is survived by his spouse of 62 years, Linda M Killmeier; his older brother, John R Killmeier (Shirley); his two sons, Col (USMC Ret) Lawrence E Killmeier, Jr (Beth) and Lucus A Killmeier (Nicole); five grandchildren and their families - Brittani Lewis (Brandon), Jessica Zimmerman (Andrew), Jacob Killmeier (Liz), Sara Spencer (Garrett) and Noah Killmeier (Kendell); and six great-grandchildren – Braelynn Lewis, Boston Lewis, Ellie Zimmerman, Alden Zimmerman, Stella Killmeier and Cam Spencer.
Larry loved time with family, animals, sailing, ceramics, movies, square dancing, tractors and time mowing, which he found relaxing after corporate life. He was a wonderful storyteller and never met a person he could not befriend. He loved to spread joy at Christmas time, a huge gifter, whose favorite thing was dressing as Santa to give bikes to the kids from the Mathews Lions Club. He will be dearly missed.
