ALTHOFF, Lamar, age 90, departed this life February 13, 2026, at his home in Mechanicsville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Althoff and Inez Burkey; his siblings, Ruth Fitzpatrick, Carol Massey, Paul Althoff, Donald Althoff, and Jane Althoff. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Patricia; his children, Laurence Althoff, Fredric Althoff, Diane Horen, and Alyssa Ginter (James); his 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Lamar was born and raised in Eastern Pennsylvania, but after joining the military, he fell in love with and married his Western Pennsylvania girl. Following his retirement from the U.S. Army, he worked as a security guard before getting a job at Volkswagen of America in New Stanton, PA. After the plant closed, He moved his family to Virginia. Lamar enjoyed sightseeing with his family while stationed in various places, including Germany, Texas, and Massachusetts. He loved his country and enjoyed visiting her National Parks, Williamsburg, and other historical landmarks. One of Lamar's favorite things was celebrating with his family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Every year, he built and displayed his ever-growing Christmas village with love. He taught his children and grandchildren card games, especially penny poker, and delighted in game nights. Lamar was a regular Mr. Fix-it and was a whiz at tinkering with audio and video equipment. His later years found him avidly doing puzzles, and he loved to be outdoors, soaking in the sun or around a campfire, listening to golden oldies, classic country or bluegrass music. While he has gone on to his eternal reward with hope in the Resurrection, his legacy will live on in the memories we share and the love he brought into our lives. We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating his life and honoring his memory. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 pm, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2631 Pocahontas Trail, Quinton, VA 23141. Interment will follow at 1 pm at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1400 S Randolph St, Richmond, VA 23220.
