WEIGL, Joseph, of Mechanicsville, VA passed away on March 30, 2026, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johann B. Weigl and Anna Weigl; and brother, Alfons. Joe is survived by a lovely family that includes his loving wife of almost 70 years, Frances Rich Weigl. Surviving are his three children, Bernard J. Weigl, Deborah W. Rosenthal (Seth), Mark A. Weigl (Julie); his five grandchildren, Joshua T. Rosenthal, Brittany N. Rosenthal, Shawn A. Rosenthal (Lindsey), Aspyn G. Weigl, and Jett T. Weigl.
Joe was born in Bavaria, Germany on October 15, 1930. He lived for two years in Toronto, Canada, prior to moving to Richmond in 1955. From 1956 to 1958, he served on active military duty with the U. S. Army and later in the U. S. Army reserves. From 1955 until retirement, except for a tour of duty with the U. S. Army, he was employed by I. R. International, formerly Inta Roto Machine Company as manager of the machine engraving division. After his retirement, he was a consultant with I. R. International. Joe was one of the founding members of the German American Sportsclub of Richmond, VA. He loved boating and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and occasionally went on deep sea fishing trips in the Atlantic and off the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. He always enjoyed different cultures and meeting people in other parts of the world. Joe and Frances went on numerous cruises and other trips to many parts of the globe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11 A.M. at Church of the Redeemer Catholic Church, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (ALSACon Charity Navigator) at www.stjude.org.
