HAYGOOD, John Mitchell “Mitch”- 42 of Henrico, VA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after fighting a lifelong battle with diabetes. Mitchell grew up in Northern Virginia, playing little league baseball and enjoying snowboarding, rollerblading, and motorcycle riding. Special times with his family included trips to beaches, Disney World, parks, zoos, and visiting relatives at the family farm. His current interests were art and music. He was a talented and creative artist.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond “Bill” and Charlotte Werre, Margaret Werre, Betty Joelene Epperley, Margie Haygood, and Fred Ashcraft; and his uncles, Drake Gray, Darrell Bevins, and William Dale Bevins.
He is survived by his parents, John and Vicki Haygood, and Rhonda Bevins Strickland; stepfather, Caleb Strickland (Tracey); his siblings, Daniel Strickland (Nina) and Brianna Strickland Middleton (Zach); his grandparents, Kent and Betty Lunsford, John “Britt” Haygood, W.J. and Barbara Strickland, and Gerry Ashcraft; his aunts and uncles, Lisa Werre Gray, William Galbreath (Candy), Robin Galbreath, Aleric Strickland, Mia Strickland, and Tabitha Strickland Medoza (Eddie); his cousin, Shane Gray (Matt); and his nieces and nephews, Vera, Ella, Braxton, Mila, and Jaxton Strickland, and Chase and Zoey Middleton.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111 with a memorial service to immediately follow at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association at http://diabetes.org/
