John Joseph Ferri

John Joseph Ferri, 79, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away on July 28, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father, John A. Ferri, and his mother, Fannie S. Ferri.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathy M. Ferri; his daughter, Angela Dawson (Dana Dawson); his son, Cody Ferri (Jordan Ferri); his sisters, Jane Ferri, Patricia Ruffner (Ed Ruffner), and Brenda Bell; and his three cherished grandchildren.

John proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969 as a Vietnam veteran. During his military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, a Marksman Rifle M-14 Badge, and two Overseas Service Bars. He carried the values of honor, dedication, and service with him throughout his life.

More than any title or accomplishment, John was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend. To know John was to know someone who never met a stranger. He had a gift for striking up conversations that often ended with a new friendship.

John found his greatest happiness in the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, relic hunting, target shooting, bird watching, tending his garden, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, he appreciated life's simple pleasures. His love of the outdoors was matched only by his love for the people in his life.

John's legacy is one of humor, laughter, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved by all whose lives he touched. He lived simply and reminded those around him that the best days were often the ones spent with family, friends, and the outdoors.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his home in Mechanicsville, Virginia, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor John's life, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable man he was.
