ATKINSON, Jean, 90, of Mechanicsville, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Arthur Hines. She is survived by her six children, Sheliah A. Dowdy (Floyd), Paula A. Cook (Ronnie), Tommie Jean A. Sabatini (Rob), T.C. Atkinson (Edie), Rhonda A. Dixon (Steven), and Todd W. Atkinson (Barbara); her ten grandchildren, Whitney Crosslin (Justin), Bennett Dowdy (Ashley), RJ Cook (Traci), Brent Cook, Andrew Sabatini (Sarah), Lauren Sabatini, Steven and Sarah Atkinson, and Erin and Josh Dixon; her five great-grandchildren, Nathan Cook, Conner Cook, Colt Crosslin, Ben and Caroline Dowdy, her sister, Linda H. Wiggington (Dave); and nieces, Tami Muller, Traci Miller, and nephew, Kent Morris, and cousin, Pat Morris. Jean was a homemaker, but also worked at Sears at Eastgate Mall, as a Sales Consultant to the Virginia ABC Stores, and P&J’s Antique Stores in Nags Head, NC. Besides enjoying the beach, she delighted in gardening and creating arts and crafts, and decorating. Jean loved to dance, was a wonderful southern cook, and really enjoyed shopping and traveling with her children. She went to Highland Springs High School where she was a majorette in the marching band in 1950. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with a celebration of life to follow at 1:30 PM. The interment will be private.
