McGhee, J. Burle, III, 74, of Mechanicsville went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Born March 6, 1950, to Joseph (Joe) McGhee, Jr. and Mary Sue Edmonson McGhee, he was a lifelong resident of Hanover County and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He graduated from Lee-Davis High School in 1968, Randolph-Macon College in 1972, and went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Burle began his career as a teacher at Washington-Henry Elementary in the 1970's, was then assistant principal at Rural Point Elementary until 1987, and a purchasing director for the school system, retiring after 31 years with Hanover County Public Schools. Over the years Burle enjoyed playing music with his friends, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family. Burle was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Elaine Martin McGhee; sons, Joseph “Jay” McGhee, IV and Geoffrey Kyle McGhee; grandchildren, Nathan, Ainsleigh, and Natalie McGhee; and brother-in-law, Marty Martin (Suzie). The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 1 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, with a service in the church sanctuary at 3 pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Walnut Grove Baptist Church, the Valerie Carter Circle of Walnut Grove, or the charity of your choice.
