Irma Smith Obituary

Smith, Irma G., 97, of Glen Allen, VA. Went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Emilie Pusina; her husband, James W. Smith; and all her siblings including eight sisters and one brother. She is survived by her sons, Kevin Smith (Gina), Tony Smith (Brenda), and Burk Bartels; and 9 grandchildren. Irma was born on November 26, 1927, in Sensburg, East Prussia (Now Poland), the youngest of a large family. They moved to Germany when she was still quite young and most of her early adulthood was spent in Berlin. She met her husband, Jim in 1956 who was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Jim brought her back to the U.S. in 1957, where they were married. For a short time, they lived in Lynchburg, VA, and then moved to Richmond. The last 60 years of her life were spent in her home in Glen Allen, except for her final 7 months which were spent with Kevin and Gina in Mechanicsville. Irma was a remarkable woman. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, but what made her more special was her love for the Lord, and her love for people. Her love for Jesus led her to share the gospel with as many people as she could. Her life was a beautiful example of her Christian faith. She especially enjoyed reading her bible and memorizing scriptures. She also loved cooking and enjoyed preparing delicious German meals. In addition, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting many beautiful things, (hats, scarves, slippers and baby blankets) which she loved to give away as gifts. Last, but certainly not least, she loved spending time with her family, friends and her grandchildren. She was an inspiration and a blessing to all who came to know her. Words cannot come close to describing her beautiful and loving spirit. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, VA 23150.
