Ian Michael William Johnson

Ian Michael William Johnson of Burgess, Virginia passed away at the age of 65 on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Bon Secours Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Ian was born on September 15, 1959, in Terrytown, New York, to his late parents Roy William Patrick Johnson and Lucy Marjorie Brown Johnson. He spent his youth growing up and living throughout the New England States before moving to the Northern Neck of Virginia, where he called home since 1988.

Ian followed in his parent’s footsteps and joined their manufacturing business in 1977, where he became head engineer and owner after their passing. He had a talent for mastering any new skill he put his mind to, building a vast knowledge of his interests. One of his many interests included cooking amazing dishes for his loved ones. He also shared a passion for music, classic films, and various fine arts with his children. Ian found great joy in playing stringed, musical instruments such as the bass guitar, and had a deep fondness for silversmithing. Ian was a tremendously talented jeweler and found this skill was truly where his creativity blossomed. Additionally, Ian spent several years volunteering his time at the White Stone Church of the Nazarene in their tech department, and would often offer up a perfectly- timed, potentially inappropriate joke to lighten the mood. Ian was a man of great humor and always looked on the bright side of life. His greatest joy was seeing others happy, and he made it a point to always find a way to make them laugh. He was a loving father, caring partner, generous friend, and the kindest soul. His eternal optimism will continue to shine on, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his three children, Sara Johnson and husband Zach, Matt Johnson and wife Emily, and Sam Johnson; three grandchildren, Layla, Liam, and Silas; his beloved partner, Karen Pittman; three siblings, brother, David Johnson, and sisters, Denise Mingo and Vivian Brown, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held in the Spring for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting your local arts.
