Wenninger, Herta Maria, 95, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away on March 1, 2026. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wenzel Moos and Johanna Neubauer; her husband, Friedrich Johann Wennninger; and her son, Peter Friedrich Wenninger. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Catherine Dixon Wenninger; grandsons, Matthew Thomas Arnold Wenninger (Amy) and Stephan Friedrich Wenninger (Sarah); and great-grandchildren, Rebekah Wenninger, Logan Wenninger, Cameron Wenninger, Tess Wenninger, and Kyle Wenninger. Herta was born in Austria, where she married Fritz Wenninger and had their son, Peter. They moved to the Dominican Republic when their son was an infant, and eight years later moved to the USA. Herta was fluent in German, Spanish, and English, and worked in offices and embassies as a translator. She was an amazing cook and loved to prepare authentic German dishes for everyone. She loved traveling, sewing, and playing golf. She enjoyed entertaining, dressing up for special occasions, and hearing her favorite music, which included songs from The Sound of Music, Johann Strauss—like The Blue Danube—and especially Ave Maria. She had many friends through the years, and she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Fairfield Presbyterian Church.
