Blankinship III, Guy Maury - 68 of New Kent, VA departed this life on Thursday, November 18, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy Maury Blankinship Jr. and Mary Nunnally Blankinship. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Laurie Susan Smith Blankinship, two sons, Guy “Maury” Blankinship IV (Kim) and Steven Kendal Blankinship (Megan), six grandchildren, Mary Adelle Blankinship, “Guy” Maury Blankinship V, John Grayson Blankinship, Griffin Gee Blankinship, Emma Paris Blankinship, and Conrad Dio Blankinship. He was excited to recently welcome two great-grandchildren, Hazel May Blankinship and Guy “Maury” Blankinship VI. His legacy lives on. Guy is also survived by two brothers, Rex Blankinship (Louise) of Live Oak, FL and Terry Blankinship (Bryn) of Wilmington, NC, one sister, Donna R. Loving of Richmond, VA and best friend for 56 years, Charles Coates and wife Judy. Guy was an electrician and mechanical engineer. He worked at MCV-VCU Dept. of Radiology for over 36 years. The last 10 years were spent as engineering manager. Guy retired from VCU in 2010 and continued operating Custom Design and Fabrication, Inc., concentrating on traumatic brain injury equipment for hospitals and universities, with his partners, Pete Robinson and Mike Grieve. During the last 30 years, Guy was an avid canoeist, especially of the James River. He was in his element entertaining friends and family on the river. He freely shared all his talents and skills with anyone who needed help. He was the most excited when someone presented him with a project that “no one else would tackle”, thus utilizing his special gift for all things mechanical. There was nothing he couldn’t create, fix, or do. Guy was a lifetime member and past Master of Sandston Masonic Lodge # 216, as well as of Henrico Union Lodge #130, and past District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District #15b in 2006. The family will receive friends from 3 – 7 pm, Monday, November 22, 2021, with a Masonic Service to be held at 7 pm, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 2 pm.
