Grover C. "Pepaw" Hale

HALE, Grover C. “Pepaw” – 75 of Sandston, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover D. and Anne Hale; and four siblings, Anne Kellam, Margaret Grey, Phyllis Smiley, and John Hale. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty Goodman Hale; two children, Amy Grazioso (John) and Kevin Hale (Rachel); five grandchildren, Connor and Tyler Grazioso, and Emma, Kayden, and Carson Hale; two bonus grandchildren, Kylee, and Deacon Bates; a sister, Ruby H. Walker; and a large village of dear friends that he considered family. Grover graduated from Highland Springs High School in 1965. He proudly served his country as a US Marine from 1966 – 1972. He retired from the US Postal Service in 2002 after 36 years of service. Grover started coaching baseball at the age of 16 and coached for over thirty years for Highland Springs and Sandston Little Leagues. He was a long-time devoted member of Varina Episcopal Church. He enjoyed family trips to Myrtle Beach and golfing with his high school buddies, but his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 pm, Monday, May 15, 2023, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A memorial service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Varina Episcopal Church, 2385 Mill Rd. Henrico, VA 23231. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 7202 Glen Forest Dr., Suite 102, Richmond, VA 23226, or to Varina Episcopal Church.
