Greg Baker passed peacefully, surrounded by family, and covered in prayers and love, after a brief battle with cancer. We are heartbroken at the loss of a gentle, kind, thoughtful, witty spirit who was able to see the world through the eyes and hearts of others and delight in the things that brought them joy. He showed this to his family in the pride he took in every accomplishment, celebration, and chance to gather. He was a patient and wise father, a devoted and loving spouse, a friend who would listen without judgment, and a big goofball. Greg loved his momma, 80’s power ballad metal, the movie Roadhouse, every single dog he ever met, and he LOVED Christmas—which he could celebrate all year round.
After graduating high school, Greg served in the United States Air Force before earning his degree in Criminal Justice Studies at Radford University. His career included time in the transportation industry with colleagues and friends at Allen Lund and Werner, and he was especially proud of his work as a counselor for the Department of Corrections, a job that he had recently returned to where he helped people every day, showing kindness, grace, and compassion to those he served.
Greg is preceded in death by his mother Judy and mother-in-law Linda, and he took comfort in knowing he would see them again. He is survived by his children Jacob and Judy, his wife Regina, along with his father Jim and brother Jimmy. He is also survived by the Adamo family, where Greg found love, joy, faith, support, and an audience for his jokes. Mike and Linda were parents to him. Jenny, Marie, Mike, Ben, and John were his brothers and sisters.
Greg leaves us an empty place at too many tables, a missing voice as we seek our way, and a hole in our hearts that our memories will forever try to fill.
