GARRETSON, Gesina Dorothy; 90, of Mechanicsville, VA joined her husband , Douglas Garretson in heaven, Sunday, May 3, 2020. “Dottie” was born June 2, 1929 in Jamaica Queens, NY to the late, John F. Murphy and Gesina Christiana Stelling Murphy. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lizette Murphy, William Murphy, John Murphy, and Frances Murphy Volz. Dottie is survived by her son, Harry Garretson (Bonnie) and daughter, Marilyn Swygert (Ted); 4 grandchildren, Phillip Garretson (Colleen), Dorothy Faye Swygert, Teddy Swygert, and Carmen McGee (Daniel); and a great-grandchild, Montserrat McGee. Dottie was a life-long lover of water and sailing with her beloved Doug. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She worked for Nassau County Police, NY and the Village of Sea Cliff, NY. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rocky Mountain Dawgs Project, PO BOX 721, Strasburg, Colorado 80136.
