BESSELLIEU, Gerald Eugene “Gerry” – 90, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 5, 2024. He was born March 20, 1933, to Clarence C. and Mary Long Bessellieu. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Laura Jane Mitchell Bessellieu; his brothers, Clarence C. Bessellieu, Jr., Melville P. Bessellieu, Robert B. Bessellieu; and his sister, Barbara H. Williams. He is survived by his sister, Mary T. Morse of Miami, FL.; his significant other, Faye C. Sandridge of Richmond, VA; his sons, Gerald E. Bessellieu, Jr. (Ruben) of Las Vegas, NV; Michael W. Bessellieu (Laurie) of Mechanicsville, VA, and Jeffery D. Bessellieu (Susan) of Mechanicsville, VA; 5 grandchildren, Lori Michelle Watson, Adam M. Bessellieu, Brandon J. Bessellieu, Olivia J. Patterson, and Laura P. Bessellieu; and 5 great-grandchildren. Gerry served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves from 1950 – 1958, where he entertained his fellow seaman with songs and music he played on his guitar. Upon returning home, he joined Virginia Power in 1956 and retired from Dominion Energy in 1991. Gerry Joined his first band, The Southern Playboys, in 1961, where they played at the Old Dominion Barn Dance in Richmond, VA. Gerry was also the founder of Walnut Grove Kennel and enjoyed breading and training rabbit beagles. Gerry was a generous man who was known in the community to help anyone in need.
