Gene "Geno" Edward Lusk went home to be with his Savior on January 23, 2025. A beloved husband, father, PaPa, and friend, he departed this life peacefully at his home in Mechanicsville, Virginia, surrounded by his family. Born on March 14, 1950, he lived 74 beautiful years, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well lived.
Gene graduated from George Wythe High School in 1968 where he played football and competed in track and field, and later attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he studied Business Administration. He had a passion for being outdoors, spending countless hours fishing and enjoying nature's beauty. When he wasn’t reeling in a big catch or teaching his grandchildren how to fish, he could be found tinkering around the house as his wife's go-to handyman and always had one of his trusty flashlights in tow. He loved cranking up his tunes — some of his favorites being The Rolling Stones, Alan Jackson, and Ronnie Milsap — and would fill every moment with the perfect song for any occasion. An avid fan of classic TV shows and sports, he loved watching reruns of M*A*S*H and Gunsmoke, and enjoyed cheering on the Nashville Predators and the Washington Redskins.
Gene’s faith was at the heart of everything he did, shaping his generous spirit and keeping him grounded. But he wasn’t just a man of faith — he was the life of the party, always quick with a joke or a story that would have everyone rolling. A family man through and through, he found joy in making others smile, and his humor and warmth were as much a part of him as his love for God. Married to his loving wife Rae for nearly 42 wonderful years, their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they built a family filled with laughter and cherished traditions that will continue to carry on his memory.
Gene is survived by his wife Rae Lusk; his children, son Brooks Lusk (wife, Jennifer) of King William, daughter Kara Lusk of Nashville, and son Ross Lusk (wife, Keri) of Chesterfield; and his grandchildren Savanna, Christian, Micah, Elijah, and Emerson, who brought immense joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Ada Eloise Lusk, as well as his brothers, Jerry and Mike Lusk.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his amazing hospice nurses, CeCi and Monica, and the compassionate team at Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29 2025, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A funeral service will be immediately following at 1:00 pm at Monaghan Funeral Home. At the conclusion of the service, a Celebration of Life will take place nearby where the family looks forward to sharing memories and stories with loved ones and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Hanover CREW Foundation in support of Hanover's emergency responders who assisted and cared for Gene in his times of need.
