Ellen Suzanne Kearns (nee, Johns)
February 12, 1947 – June 5, 2025
It is with profound sorrow and deep love that we announce the passing of Ellen Suzanne Kearns, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Suzanne passed away on June 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Born on February 12, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Ellen and Daniel Johns, Suzanne’s life was defined by her unwavering devotion to her family, her boundless generosity, and her zest for life. Growing up in the community of Round Bay, she spent her childhood summers swimming, crabbing, and making memories with her beloved family and lifelong friends. Her deep connection to the water and nature remained a constant throughout her life.
Suzanne graduated from Severna Park High School in 1965 and soon after began a fulfilling career as a legal assistant, where she was recognized for her intelligence, diligence, and warm demeanor. Yet, her greatest fulfillment was always found in her family—those who were blessed to know her experienced the depth of her love and her selfless devotion to the people she held closest to her heart.
Suzanne was the beloved wife of Kevin Kearns of Aylett, VA. Suzanne was also a proud and devoted mother to her children, Marie (Tom) of Severna Park, MD, and JR (Katie) of Frederick, MD, and a doting grandmother to her four cherished grandchildren: Eddie, Graham, Lily, and Gabe. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she relished every moment spent with them.
Suzanne is survived by her sister, Linda Beall, and her brothers Kenneth Johns and Robin Johns. She was predeceased by her parents, Ellen and Daniel Johns, as well as her brothers, John and Dennis Johns, and her sister, Barbara Johns.
Throughout her life, Suzanne was known for her generosity, warmth, and kindness, and she was beloved by all who knew her. Suzanne’s presence was a gift to everyone who crossed her path. She lived life with an open heart—her generosity knew no bounds, and her love provided strength and comfort to her family and friends.
Suzanne’s joy was in the simple pleasures of life: the beauty of the outdoors, the comfort of family, and the laughter of those she loved most. She loved the beach, her garden, traveling, and the company of family and friends.
Suzanne’s memory will live on in the countless lives she touched—her legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a world that is better for having had her in it.
A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held, with details to be determined.
