Elaine Olsen Obituary

Olsen, Elaine Lynn, 60, of Winston-Salem, NC (formerly of Long Island, NY), peacefully departed this life on Friday, June 12, 2026, surrounded by her siblings. Greeting her in the next life are her mother and stepfather, Bonnie and Mark Terry; her big brother, Frank Olsen; and her father, Robert Olsen. Left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Janet Avery (Chris), Laurie Simonds (Todd), Daniel Olsen (Tammy), Tracy Martinez, and Nikki Terry (Tom); her uncle, Chris Olsen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Elaine lived life on her own terms. She knew how to have a good time and was always the life of the party. She was generous to those she cared about and would gladly give of herself to help them if they were in need. She could be a force to be reckoned with if anyone dared to threaten her loved ones. Elaine loved animals and would rescue as many as she could. Her heart could charm even the spiciest of strays into becoming her next best friend.  She loved 70’s music, especially Barry White, and enjoyed dancing in her younger years.  She was an excellent cook and found great joy in preparing elaborate meals for her family and friends.

Elaine proudly worked as a branch manager at North Fork Bank for many years and then as Vice President of Enviro Comp, an environmental remediation company on the Island, before retiring and moving to North Carolina to join her family down south.  She was a very private person and kept her circle small. Her brother Frank and her mother were her best friends, and their passings hit her hard. Though she is gone all too soon, we know she is happy to be reunited with them on the other side. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated, and her ashes will be returned to the island. As a symbol of her generous nature, Elaine gave the gift of life and donated her organs to give several others a second chance at life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to your local animal rescue organization.
