CRAWFORD, Edward Milton- 96, of Mechanicsville, VA Went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Daisy Crawford, Sr.; his sister, Daisy Jody; two brothers, George, and Tom Crawford; a son, Edward Crawford, Jr.; a daughter, Rebecca Hardy; and his grandson, Jody Crawford. Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 75 years, Pauline Crawford; three daughters, Debbie Burdette (Mike), Kathy Guier (Ben), and Tammy Jones (Rick); son-in-law, Bert Hardy;  fourteen grandchildren, Jason (Annie), Miranda, Chris, Isaac, Eddie, Amber (Tyson), Trisha, Mandy (Brett), Nathan (Sabrina), Sam (Lisa), Nick (Beth), Colby, Talia (James),  and Chelsea (Matt); twenty-one great-grandchildren, Lexie, Amelia, Bree, Courtney (Cody), Rachel, Lydia, Malachi, Gideon, Silas, Roman, Riley, Eleanor, Embry, Mason, Madelyn, Avery, Sterling, Elliette, Brayden, Kyler, and Brynlee; five great-great-grandchildren and another to arrive in February, Ellie, Sophia, Mason, Andrew, and Casen; a brother, Ray Crawford; a sister, Martha Christian; and many other family and friends. Ed was a loving and faithful husband and father. He loved his family, friends, and his country. He was a steady presence for all who knew him. Ed was honest, had a strong work ethic, loyal and dependable, and a man of strong faith. He had a wonderful sense of humor and told great stories and some tall tales. He always enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren. He liked collecting things, the outdoors, taking Sunday drives, and resting under shade trees. He was always happiest when spending time with friends and family he loved. Ed was born in Southgate, KY, and moved to Georgia when he was 11. As a boy, he loved spending time with his grandparents at Cumberland Falls and playing with his siblings and cousins in Georgia. As a young man, he served in the US Navy, met, and married his sweetheart, bought her their first house, and raised a family in Lexington, KY, where they resided for fifty-four years. He served in the Navy during WWII and was on a ship that brought the troops home when the war ended. He was greatly loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We will cherish his memory until we are reunited in Heaven. The family will receive friends from 11 am – 1 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, VA 23111, where a Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hanover Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude, or the Samaritan’s Purse, as these were charities that Ed supported.
