Dorothy (Shumate) Whitlock

WHITLOCK, Dorothy Shumate, “Dot” 93 of Mechanicsville, VA peacefully went to be with the Lord on November 18, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, John James and Ethel Shumate; brother, Jack Shumate; sister, Betty Hood; and son-in-law, Butch Crew. She is survived by her daughters, Robin Tate, and Jennifer Crew; granddaughters, Savannah Crew, and Natalie Daugherty (Lee); sister-in-law, Betty Ann Poore; and special friends, Terry and Steve Cooper. Dot was raised in Victoria, Virginia. She came to Richmond and began her career at C&P Telephone Company as a telephone operator. After raising her children, she finished her career with Nokia. She was a talented seamstress and baker. She loved to bowl, do crossword puzzles, decorate her home, tend to her flowers, shop, but most of all take care of her family. She loved Rock and Roll, especially Elvis, and watching Andy Griffith. The family would like to thank Sabrita Caldwell, Affinity Hospice, and At Home Hospice, for their compassionate care of Dot. The family would like to welcome visitors from 2 – 4 pm, on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy. Mechanicsville, VA 23111, to honor the memory of both of their parents,  Russell and Dorothy Whitlock.
