Donald "Donnie" Martin Obituary

MARTIN, Donald “Donnie” Glen- 74 of Mechanicsville, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 10, 2026.  Donnie was born on July 9, 1952, and lived in Mechanicsville his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Radie Wilson Martin and Winnie Williams Martin; and his brother-in-law, G. Thomas Walls, Jr. He is survived by his sisters, Marilyn M. Walls, and Jan M. Powell (David); nephews, Tom Walls III (Terry), Josh Powell (Melissa), Joey Powell, and Jake Powell (Melissa), great-nephews, Daniel Walls (Emily), Steven Walls (Victoria), Luke Powell, and Noah Powell; and great-nieces, Hannah Powell, Logan Powell, and Callie Powell. Donnie attended Battlefield Park Elementary School and Lee-Davis High School, where he made lifelong friends among his classmates and faculty. As a young adult, Donnie was active in the Mechanicsville Jaycees and was employed by the Virginia ABC Board. Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan, intensely following his favorite University of Virginia and Randolph-Macon College teams, while keeping track of all high school teams in Hanover and Henrico, all college teams, and all professional teams. He especially followed football and basketball, but he was conversant on other sports as well. He knew the players, the venues, and hundreds of statistics. He also spent many hours enjoying his baseball card collection. Donnie was a participant on the Special Olympics Bowling team for over 30 years and a member of Hanover ARC. He enjoyed going to special camp with his friends once a year as long as he could. Special thanks to Marcella Wright for years of carrying Donnie to Randolph–Macon Minding Classes, Hanover ARC, Special Olympics Bowling, and Community Club events. Donnie was a kind, gentle soul who never met a stranger or an enemy. He absolutely loved talking to people and sharing with them. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. A graveside service will be held at Gethsemane Church of Christ, 5146 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
