SLATER, Donald Wayne - 81, of Mechanicsville, Virginia departed this life on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, to join his family members in heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary Louise Slater; wife, Marion Anne Kidd Slater; son, Patrick Slater; and brother, Marion Clayton Tyler, Jr.. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Page Tyler (friend, Buddy Lewis); niece, Jennifer Heindl (friend, Mac Jefferies); and nephew, Timothy Dunn (friend, Shera Madison). Mr. Slater worked at VDOT for forty years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. We extend a thank you to Buddy Lewis for being his personal barber and helping him as needed. He also had three close friends, Bubbie Flippen, Hennie, and Jessie Britton, that helped him over the years. He loved to go to Cold Harbor Restaurant and join his friends for breakfast where they laughed and talked about old times. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy Mechanicsville, VA 23111, from 12 to 1 pm, with a memorial service immediately following.
